From ice to water...

Listening to a podcast the other day on my drive to work (for those who don't know I live 22kms out of town so many a podcast is heard) and this podcast provoked a thought:

Question: If you have a cup full of ice and it melts, do you have any less ice?

Answer: No.

It's exactly the same amount of water but the water has changed form.

(feel free to pause here to ponder that question yourself!)

So it got me thinking that the same goes for us. Over the course of our lives, we change. It could be our physical shape, our beliefs/thought patterns/religion or relationship status and so much more. The same idea can also be applied to when we die. We don't cease to exist. We just take up a different form.

Now, I know I am not the same person I was a year ago, let alone 20. I am no less. I am no more. I have just changed form. We are constantly gifted opportunities to gain knowledge through experiences and 'change form'. Perhaps we do this over one lifetime or many - that's for you to decide.

So then after researching other metaphors I come across this:

"If ice melts down to water, does it still remember being ice?" - Jennifer McMahon

I like to think we do remember. In our cells. In our intuition. Think deja vu. Those times when you just know. You know, you know.

So maybe life is just us constantly moving from ice to water? I know it gave me pause for thought and I hope it does you too.
